What is one destination that has inspired your creativity, and why?
Cape Town, of course! Being a South African, it's in my blood. The dramatic landscapes, the vibrant culture, and the incredible biodiversity all within such proximity are a constant source of inspiration. From the iconic Table Mountain to the colourful Bo-Kaap and the stunning beaches, Cape Town embodies a spirit of adventure, resilience, and creativity. The way the city blends its natural beauty with its rich historical and cultural heritage is something I strive to emulate in creating a unique and memorable experience for our guests at The Cadogan.

Can you share an unforgettable experience from your travels that left a lasting impression?
A journey I took through Thailand, from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the tranquil beaches of the south. The vibrant colours of the markets, the peacefulness of the temples, and the warmth and generosity of the Thai people left a lasting impression on me. Learning about their culture and traditions, trying new culinary delights, and experiencing the country's natural beauty was truly transformative. It reinforced the importance of embracing diversity, seeking out new perspectives, and finding joy in the simplest of things – values that I try to bring to our hotel and share with our guests.

Which season inspires you most in your work and why?
Spring truly reawakens my senses. The air fills with the scent of blossoms, colours burst forth, and there's a palpable sense of renewal and optimism in the hotel. And of course, as someone who appreciates beauty and design, attending the Chelsea Flower Show in London is an absolute highlight. The sheer artistry and ingenuity on display, the innovative use of colour and texture, and the passion for creating stunning botanical displays are always incredibly inspiring. It teaches me the importance of attention to detail, the power of collaboration, and the ability to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences. This translates into how we curate our hotel's ambiance, ensuring that our décor, floral arrangements, and overall atmosphere are fresh, inviting, and evocative of the season's spirit.

What recent project or achievement are you most proud of, and how did it impact your business or clients?
I am most proud of launching our revamped guest experience program with the team at The Cadogan. Instead of generic offerings, we focused on truly understanding each guest's individual preferences and passions. Our fantastic concierge team partnered with local experts to curate personalised itineraries - from private wine tastings in English vineyards to curated art tours in Chelsea and in the hotel. The impact has been remarkable. We have seen a significant increase in guest satisfaction scores, repeat bookings, and positive word-of-mouth referrals. More importantly, it's allowed us to create deeper connections with our guests, turning a simple hotel stay into a truly unforgettable and meaningful experience.

What would a perfect, inspiring day in London look like for you?
My ideal day in London would begin with an early morning stroll through one of our beautiful Royal Parks or garden squares, enjoying the crisp air and the serene beauty of these open spaces in our bustling city. I would grab a coffee and a pastry from my local coffee shop on Pavilion road and simply soak in the atmosphere. Next, I would go to the V&A museum focusing on a specific collection or exhibition, allowing myself to get lost in the history and artistry on display. I love the ability to enjoy moments of discovery right on our doorstep. Lunch would be at Borough Market, indulging a sampling of cheeses, some street food, and maybe a glass of English fizz. In the afternoon, I would enjoy art at the Tate Modern wandering through the Turbine Hall and galleries and enjoying the stunning views of the city and St Paul’s cathedral from the viewing platform. In the evening if my energy levels allow, I would attend a performance at the Royal Opera House. I do love a classic opera! Of course, the most important part for me would be sharing the day with someone special.

What is your go-to spot in London for an unforgettable experience?
The city of London the ‘square mile’. There is something truly magical about wandering through those narrow lanes, surrounded by centuries of history and architectural grandeur. From the imposing presence of St. Paul's Cathedral to the ancient Roman ruins tucked away in hidden corners, every street has a story to tell. I love discovering the charming pubs, the hidden courtyards, and the architectural details that reveal the City's rich past. Exploring the City's historic streets for me is a truly immersive and unforgettable experience that never fails to inspire me no matter what time of year it is.

Is there a particular flower that holds special meaning or significance for you?
Yes, the protea holds a very special meaning for me. As a South African, it's our national flower, and it embodies so much of what I love about my homeland. The protea is known for its striking beauty, its resilience, and its ability to thrive in challenging environments. It comes in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colours, reflecting the incredible diversity of South Africa's landscape and its people.
It also symbolizes strength, adaptability, and the ability to flourish even in the face of adversity. It's a reminder of the beauty that can be found in unexpected places, and a celebration of the unique spirit of South Africa.

If you could send flowers to one person, who would it be and why?
If I could send flowers to one person as a gesture of gratitude, it would be to my mother. She has been my unwavering support system and my greatest inspiration throughout my life. From cheering me at school to offering invaluable advice during my career decisions, she has always been there for me, selflessly prioritising my well-being and happiness.
Her strength, wisdom, and boundless love have shaped me into the person I am today. She taught me the importance of empathy, perseverance, and always striving for excellence. Sending her flowers would be a small way to express my immense gratitude for her unconditional love, her unwavering belief in me, and the countless sacrifices she has made to help me achieve my dreams. The flowers would represent the beauty, joy, and love she has consistently brought into my life, and a reminder of how much I love her.

Is there a film or piece of art that resonates with your personal or professional philosophy?
A film that resonates with my professional philosophy is the movie Chocolat.
The film tells the story of Vianne Rocher, a single mother who arrives in a conservative French village during Lent and opens a small chocolate shop. Initially met with suspicion and resistance, Vianne uses her unique talent for crafting delicious and personalised chocolates to connect with the villagers and help them rediscover joy, passion, and self-expression. The film highlights the power of simple pleasures to uplift the human spirit, the importance of embracing individuality and diversity, and the ability of food to create connections and break down social barriers. Vianne's approach to hospitality – understanding each person's needs and desires and crafting a personalised experience for them – is exactly what I strive for in our hotel. It emphasises the transformative power of creating something special and personal for each guest.

What book or author has influenced your career or perspective on life?
A book that has significantly influenced my perspective on life and, to a degree, my career is the "Long Walk to Freedom" by Nelson Mandela.
It is a powerful testament to the human spirit's resilience, the importance of perseverance, and the transformative power of forgiveness. His unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and reconciliation, even after enduring decades of imprisonment, is truly inspiring.
Reading about Mandela's life and struggles has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the values of empathy, compassion, and leadership. His ability to unite a divided nation and create a vision for a better future has shaped my own approach to management and has taught me the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
