Gourds, Pumpkins and Autumn Treasures

With Halloween and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, it is the time of year when we celebrate the harvest with fabulous designs created with Gourds, Pumpkins and other fruits and flowers of the season. Along with the arrival of autumn come many harvest celebrations around the world in thanks for the successful harvesting of crops. Dates of these festivities vary from country to country and according to the time of the “harvest moon” (the full moon). In the U.K. this year “harvest home” was held on Sunday, September 22nd. For a floral designer, autumn and these harvesting and thanksgiving celebrations inspire designs that are quite different from any other time of the year. Gourds and Pumpkins are fabulous fruits to blend with flowers; the warm, autumnal colours create a spectacular colour palette and the textures of fruits and grasses blended with flowers give rise to exceptionally rich and abundant designs.
