A Festive Transformation at The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel

Discover The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, where Neill Strain Floral Couture unveils a season of quiet luxury. Our first Christmas installation for this iconic Chelsea residence celebrates rich, handcrafted florals, elegant winter textures and the warming glow of our ‘Christmas Eve’ fragrance - creating a festive ambience that feels refined, welcoming and exquisitely detailed.

Christmas at The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel, is always a moment of quiet luxury in the heart of Chelsea. Nestled between Sloane Street and Pavilion Road, this historic red brick townhouse blends timeless British charm with contemporary sophistication, making it the perfect setting for an unforgettable festive showcase. This year marks a particularly special milestone for us at Neill Strain Floral Couture, as it is our first year as the in-house florist and our first Christmas installation at this iconic Belmond property. We were also delighted to introduce our Fragranced Candle Collection to the hotel, with 'Christmas Eve' burning throughout December and welcoming guests with its warm and nostalgic scent.

The festive story begins at the entrance portico, where the columns are wrapped in lush, hand-made garlands brimming with rich reds, burgundies, evergreens and touches of gold. Suspended above the doorway is a grand wreath dressed in a sumptuous blend of baubles, Ilex berries, gilded magnolia, textured foliage and fresh winter greens. Both the wreath and the garlands are heavily adorned with a curated mix of baubles in varying sizes and finishes, creating depth, texture and movement that catch the light beautifully and add a sense of theatre on arrival.

Warm white fairy lights have been threaded throughout to create a soft, golden glow that feels inviting and wonderfully celebratory. As guests enter, they are met with the scent of our 'Christmas Eve' candle, which fills the lobby with comforting notes of orange peel, clove, cinnamon and winter woods. This is the first time The Cadogan has showcased our fragrance collection, and it has already become a defining detail of the guest experience this season.

Built in 1887, The Cadogan is steeped in history and adored for its connection to literary and artistic life in London. Today, as part of Belmond, the hotel embodies a thoughtful philosophy of craftsmanship, character and understated luxury. Its elegant interiors feature marble details, soft neutrals, classic panelling and warm natural light, which together create an atmosphere of refined serenity.

With this in mind, I approached the Christmas installation as an opportunity to celebrate the building’s architecture while bringing a modern flourish to its festive ambience. Every design was created to enhance the proportions, textures and tonal palette of the hotel. The colour story of reds, burgundies and gold was chosen to enrich the warmth of the spaces and to bring a sense of festive richness without overwhelming The Cadogan’s intimate charm.

Inside, sweeping stair garlands make a dramatic impression as they cascade along the banisters. These are lush, multi-layered and adorned with gilded birch twigs, glossy foliage, clusters of baubles and fresh scented spruce, pine and eucalyptus. The lighting creates a soft and atmospheric glow that draws the eye inward and sets the tone for the festive journey throughout the hotel.

In the lobby, a magnificent 9 foot Christmas tree stands beside the fireplace. Styled with the same richly layered palette as the wreaths and garlands, it features an opulent blend of ornaments that add depth, sparkle and refinement. The tree feels grand yet welcoming, perfectly aligned with The Cadogan’s elegant residential feel.

Mantle garlands and floral arrangements placed throughout the public areas complete the story. Vases filled with deep red amaryllis, elegant orchids and vibrant Ilex berries bring freshness and seasonal beauty to the space, while gilded magnolia leaves and sculptural birch twigs add a luxurious winter flourish.

Our Christmas installations are rooted in artistry, storytelling and a dedicated commitment to exceptional materials. Each wreath, garland and arrangement is handcrafted in our London studio using premium flowers and the freshest winter greens from our trusted growers.

For The Cadogan, the design approach was guided by harmony and respect for the space. The tone needed to feel warm, cosy and welcoming, yet still unmistakably luxurious. The addition of fragrance played a vital role in this. The 'Christmas Eve' candle brings an immediate emotional connection and a sense of festive comfort that guests notice the moment they arrive.

This first Christmas as the in-house florist for The Cadogan has been a joy for our team. Collaborating with a hotel that values craftsmanship and character as deeply as Belmond does is an inspiring experience, and it has allowed us to create a festive environment that feels both timeless and full of warmth.

Whether guests are checking in for a seasonal escape, gathering for celebrations or simply enjoying the charm of Chelsea in December, The Cadogan now offers the perfect festive backdrop.
